About Us

Youth Cymru is a major youth work charity operating within Wales, until June 7th 2003 we were known as the Welsh Association of Youth Clubs.

The WAYC has been one of the major national voluntary youth organisations in Wales, and has served the needs of young people for more than sixty years.

Youth Cymru primarily exists to support youth workers, club leaders and their management committees in developing their programmes and meeting the priorities of the young people they work with. Additionally it promotes projects that respond to the specific needs of young people both locally and nationally. It sponsors a range of area and regional events of which some lead to national and UK wide competition, and provides a comprehensive programme of training for leaders, club members and committees. Youth Cymru embraces the principles of the National Assembly for Wales report 'Extending Entitlement' and seeks to develop youth provision and the involvement of young people through partnerships with Local Authorities, national and local voluntary bodies and community groups. It takes account of the Youth Work Curriculum Statement for Wales in planning its activities.
