Mission Strategy

The purposes of Youth Cymru will be achieved through the following objectives:

  • Improving the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of provision for young people by advising on curriculum and programme matters, organisational structures and management systems.

  • Organising training opportunities for youth workers, young people and other agencies concerned with the social and personal education of young people and the development of good youth work practices.

  • Promoting effective partnership with other relevant organisations and agencies in order that the best use is made of available resources, skills and experience to respond positively to the identified needs of young people.

  • Facilitating the exchange of information, expertise and ideas through the establishment of effective channels of communication, within Youth Cymru and with other youth work agencies that share a mutual interest in provision for young people.

  • Disseminating examples of good and innovatory practice so that quality standards are achieved and the work of Youth Cymru receives a high public profile.

  • Identifying and prioritising young people's needs and responding positively to them through establishing projects and other appropriate youth work strategies.

  • Empowering young people by providing opportunities for them to gain those skills that enable them to address issues that are of concern to them, and to engage in decision-making and management systems in Youth Cymru and the communities in which they live.

The Mission will be fulfilled principally but not exclusively through Youth Cymru's network of affiliated clubs, groups and projects in Wales and by partnerships with Local Authorities and other voluntary sector bodies having regard for the priorities for the National Assembly for Wales. In all its activities the Association will promote equal opportunities and will have regard for the principles and purposes of youth work set out in the Youth Work Curriculum Statement for Wales and the equal status of the English and Welsh language.
