A Service to Celebrate Young People and their AchievementsLlandaff Cathedral - 16th November 2011 UK Youth and Youth Cymru hosted Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal on 16 November at Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff for a service in celebration of young people and their achievements. The service was lead by the Most Reverend Dr Barry Morgan Archbishop of Wales at Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff. The Archbishop was joined by the Right Reverend John Davies, Bishop of Swansea and Brecon and the Very Reverend John T Lewis, Dean of Llandaff, in leading the service in celebration of young people and the work of UK Youth and Youth Cymru. The Archbishop and Bishops expressed their pleasure in leading a service where HRH The Princess Royal and UK Youth and Youth Cymru staff, Trustees, young people and guests were able to enjoy a modern celebratory service in both English and Welsh. The service featured some outstanding performances from young people. Particular highlights included a young soloist Oliver Price's moving performance of 'Panis Angelicus', the Media Academy Cardiff Choir's outstanding performances of a medley of songs by Adele, and a Piano Duet performed by Charlie and Harry Lovell-Jones playing 'Slavonic Dance No 8' by Antonin Dvorak. The service also featured keynote addresses on 'The Importance of Youth Work in Young People's Lives'. The first address was made by Andrea Benfield, an ITV newsreader who was acting as an advocate for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme; having completed her Gold Award. The second address was made by Josh Cope, a member of Youth Cymru's Executive Committee. A transcript of Josh's speech can be downloaded here. The day was a huge success with HRH The Princess Royal spending time after the ceremony meeting many inspirational young people from England and Wales.
